"John Wesley Harding" is a vinyl reissue of the mono version of the eighth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, originally released in December 1967.
The album was produced by Bob Johnston. The album marks Dylan's return to the acoustic sound and folk music characteristic of his first albums. John Wesley Harding was exceptionally well received by critics and sold well, reaching the 2nd position in the US charts and topping the UK. It is noteworthy that Dylan did not allow the label to actively promote the album. Less than three months after its release, the album was awarded gold status according to the RIAA classification. Although Dylan refused to release any song from the album as a single, the song "All Along The Watchtower" became one of his most popular songs after Jimi Hendrix made a cover version of it.
Bob Dylan was born in 1941, in 1961 he moved to New York, a year later his solo album of the same name was released. At first, his work was more popular in the UK, where his second CD topped the local charts. In the USA, Dylan's first disc No. 1 was Planet Waves, recorded with members of The Band, a total of five of his albums rose to the top of the American charts, seven - in the UK. The most successful singles in the USA were "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35", each of them reached the 2nd place of the American charts.
