Vinyl Player Pro-Ject RPM 5 Carbon 2M-Silver Piano

The Pro-Ject RPM 5 Carbon player, which replaced the RPM 5.1 model, occupies an average position in the branded RPM line of vinyl turntables. The model borrowed some progressive technical solutions from its older brother in the RPM 9 Carbon series, including the drive concept.

The vibration and resonance resistant chassis of the player includes a new inverted bearing with a stainless steel axle and a ceramic ball. As a result, the required smoothness of the ride is provided and the level of mechanical noise is reduced. The table of the model has a teardrop shape and is equipped with three adjustable conical legs made of aluminum and designed to be decoupled from the support surface. A flat mini-stand is installed under each leg. The upper part of the table received a spectacular glossy finish, under which there is a carbon fiber coating.

The acoustically inert 300 mm acrylic support disc is driven by a belt mounted on a pulley completely untied from the synchronous electric motor body. The high-precision motor is characterized by smooth running and uses an alternator. A separate adapter unit is used to power it. As a result, a more stable rotation speed of the disk is achieved. Speeds of 33.3 and 45 rpm are supported, and switching between them is done manually by transferring the passer from one pulley to another.

The player is equipped with a 9-inch Pro-Ject 9cc Evolution tonearm with a conical carbon tube that forms one with the shell and effectively resists resonances. The counterweight received reliable damping due to the use of a thermoplastic elastomer TPE. Height adjustment is available, as well as adjustment of the VTA angle and azimuth (due to rotation of the tonearm tube, which is fixed with a single bolt). The Pro-Ject RPM 5 Carbon model is equipped with an Ortofon 2M Silver MM cartridge. It can be delivered without a cartridge.

A dust cover is provided as an option for the Pro-Ject RPM 5 Carbon. In the back of the player there are two gold-plated RCA output connectors for connection to a step-up transformer or phono corrector. The sound of the Pro-Ject RPM 5 Carbon is distinguished by an open, clean and musical presentation, attention to detail, well-developed bass and a wide stage.
