Vinyl disc Hand Me Down My Moonshine (180g LP)
This release is LUTHER ALLISON's first acoustic work recorded at LUTHER'S Paris residence. With these melodies, Ruf Records added another facet to ALLISON's rich heritage. These close acoustic encounters with Luther, his guitar and random friends are rare in his work and performances.
LUTHER's vibrant acoustic style and his unassuming, unstressed vocals make this composition enjoyable to listen to. LUTHER is accompanied on all tracks except one by his touring bassist Zox on acoustic bass. Euro guitarist Patrick Verbeke helps with two melodies, playing steel and 12-string guitars. LUTHER's son, BERNARD ALLISON, provides slide guitar and backing vocals in the final version. Thierry Menesclu refuses to play the harmonica on the same tune.
LUTHER's guitar virtuosity, as well as his familiarity with and connection with music, make this work another feather in his hat. The feeling of this music is soothing, but at the same time playful. It will feel like you are sitting in LUTHER's living room and listening to this. DAT recordings are clean and crisp with little sound distortion.
Of the twelve melodies of this release, LUTHER's pen wrote ten. He also produced a biscuit. LUTHER ELLISON has always been an intimate performer; someone who attracted his audience and took them on a musical tour. This disc is no different! LUTHER is still here to give us the opportunity to get to know the blues. These acoustic sessions are just the sweet filling on his already layered cake!
