Violator is the seventh studio album by the cult British band. It was recorded at several studios from May to December 1989 and was first released in the UK on Mute Records on March 19, 1990. An important role in the creation and promotion of the record was played by producer Flood, sound engineer Francois Kevorkian and Anton Corbein, who designed the cover, took promotional photos and filmed video accompaniments to songs from the album and concert performances. "Violator" became the most famous and commercially successful work of the band and in 1996 received a triple platinum disc certificate from the American Association of Recording Companies. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine placed "Violator" at 342nd place in the list of "The 500 greatest albums of all time".
The Depeche Mode collective was formed in 1980 in the UK, and became the founder of its own musical genre (a mixture of rock and electronic music). 115 million copies of their albums have been sold. Q magazine included the band in the list of "50 bands that changed the world", and in 2001, the VH1 channel identified Depeche Mode on the 98th position in the list of "100 greatest artists of all time".
