The Sumiko Amethyst movable magnet pickup head has complemented the Oyster Series brand line. Sumiko company focuses on the fact that today "Amethyst" is the most ambitious model among its MM cartridges and, in fact, is the new flagship.

This head uses an improved design of the generator (converter), thanks to which it was possible to minimize noise, get amazing dynamics and provide exceptionally accurate tracking (audio track tracking). The model effectively takes advantage of the powerful electromotive forces characteristic of MM structures, which ensures a clear rhythmic sound with an excellent punch. In this regard, Sumiko Amethyst even surpasses some heads with a movable coil comparable in characteristics.

The neat closed cartridge case has a well-thought-out geometry, perfectly resists parasitic resonances and has symmetrical beveled sidewalls, as well as an easily replaceable needle holder assembly with a cutout pushed forward for the convenience of adjusting the cartridge when it is installed in the tonearm shell. There are two threaded mounting holes on the upper side of the housing.

The diamond needle of the Sumiko Amethyst pickup head is distinguished by a rather complex Nude Line Contact profile, with which you can get an exceptionally accurate sound with great detail. The needle is mounted on a lightweight aluminum holder, and copper wire is used in the internal wiring. The Sumiko Amethyst model is capable of providing a wide frequency range and does not impose any special requirements on the phono corrector. The recommended clamping force for the needle is two grams.
