"The Great Escape" is a remastered reissue of the studio album on double 180-gram vinyl by the British rock band Blur, originally released in 1995. 4 singles were released from the album, including "Country House" (the band's first single to reach number one on the UK Singles Chart), "The Universal", "Stereotypes" and "Charmless Man".
Blur is a British rock band founded in 1988 in London. One of the most successful bands of the 90s. The band consists of Damon Albarn (vocals), Graham Coxon (guitar), Alex James (bass guitar) and Dave Rowntree (drums). The band's debut album, "Leisure" (1991), combines the influences of Madchester and shoegazing. The subsequent stylistic changes in 1992 - influenced by English guitar bands such as The Kinks, The Beatles and XTC - led to the albums "Modern Life Is Rubbish" (1993), "Parklife" (1994) and "The Great Escape" (1995). As a result, the band became the main popularizer of britpop and became widely known in the UK, with the support, not least, of the popular battle in the charts, dubbed the "Battle of Britpop", with the rival band Oasis. The band has sold about 50 million copies of albums worldwide. By the end of the 90s, with the release of the album "Blur" (1997), the band's sound underwent another change, influenced by indie rock and the low-fi style in which American bands worked, for example, Pavement, which led the band to gain popularity in the USA. Popularity in America is primarily due to the single "Song 2". The next album of the band "13" (1999) is full of experiments in the field of electronic music and gospel.
