Mark Almond is a British singer and musician. In 1979-1984, Almond was a member of the electronic pop duo Soft Cell and the Marc And The Mambas project. The synthpop duo Soft Cell was hugely popular in the early 80s and greatly influenced subsequent generations of musicians. The band owes its popularity in the USA to only one song, "Tainted Love", which lasted 43 weeks on the Billboard chart, while in the UK ten singles hit the Top 40, and four albums from 1981 to 1984 reached the top twenty of the chart. Since 1984, Mark Almond has been performing solo, periodically recording in various projects. In total, Almond has sold more than 30 million of his recordings worldwide.
