For more than 50 years, Ortofon has been developing and manufacturing cartridges with movable magnets. Along with our movable coil cartridges, models with movable magnets have proven themselves among music lovers and Hi-Fi fans all over the world.

The Ortofon OM 5 series includes three basic cartridges: OM 5S, OM 5E and Super OM 5E.

OM 5 are the lightest Ortofon cartridges. Therefore, they are equipped with a weighting device placed on the mounting plane. The weighting is necessary in the case of using a standard tonearm. If the tonearm is designed for low-weight cartridges, the plate must be removed. After that, the weight of the OM cartridge will be 2.5 g. Both "upper" and lower mounting options are provided for OM cartridge housings.

Among the OM 5 series cartridges, the flagship model was the Ortofon Super OM 5E. It obtained an accurate geometry, and hollow pole pins minimized eddy current losses, which made it possible to expand the frequency range and improve phase linearity.

The body of the Ortofon Super OM 5E is made of noril (a composite of plastic and glass) in order to increase rigidity and reduce resonances. In addition, the Super OM 5E model received about a quarter higher DC resistance and internal inductance compared to the OM 5.

The cartridge develops a voltage of 4 mV at the output, which makes it compatible with any phono correctors, including those built into integrated amplifiers and AV receivers.
